In this video, Chuck tests out Fiebing’s Leathercolors, a water-based leather dye, to see how it stands up to Pro Dye! We’ve had a lot of questions about water-based dyes since Pro Dye can’t be shipped to California. Watch the video to find out his thoughts on this dye and see if this may be the right dye for you.
I have been using alcohol based dyes since the 70′ until the Tandy manager turned me on to Pro Dye. The best feature is the dye doesn’t dry out the leather like the old dyes did. But, I do a lot of pastel colors and need light, bright colors that pop so, for small flowers, stems, etc I keep a small 4oz bottle of Red & Yellow in the shop to get the brightest reds and yellow in my pastel work. Test it and see if I’m not wrong. Pro Dye yellow looks almost like light tan next to the alcohol based yellow. The red is brighter as well.
